Customer reviews and testimonials are an essential part of the e-commerce experience. According to research, the majority of shoppers are influenced by reviews when they are making their buying decisions. Reviews are also great testimonials to use on social media and on promotion pages. But how do you get customers to leave reviews?
One way to do this is to simply ask! A follow up email checking how the customer is getting on with their product and politely asking if they would like to leave a review can prompt a customer who’s simply been too busy or has got diverted to leave a review. If you have your own website you can probably automate this process. Perhaps also ask customers to send you any photos of them using/wearing your products – again, this is sterling stuff for using on social media.
On Etsy, it’s important to note that you cannot offer a discount coupon in return for a positive review, Etsy regards that as extortion https://www.etsy.com/help/article/5616 One of the best ways to get a review is to go over and above when it comes to delivering. Make the customer feel really special – like they’re the only person you’re dealing with. This means making sure that your communication is spot on, perhaps add a little note to your order (hand written is great, but if you have lots of customers that may not be feasible, so a nice printed note which you sign would also work well), personalize your communication with the customer’s name…
If your customer feels special and important, hopefully they will want to give you a glowing review as part of the process. However, if a customer doesn’t give a review, don’t fret 🙂 there are some people who just don’t give reviews – and that’s fine. We can only do our best.
Do you find your customers love giving reviews or is it an uphill struggle?
